Disaster Prep: Business Checklist

It is that time of year again; the potential for various natural disasters, making it a crucial time for preparedness. Whether it’s hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, or severe storms, ensuring your safety and your family’s safety is paramount. As a business owner, it’s equally important to prepare your business for any potential disruptions. Taking proactive steps now can help safeguard your operations and minimize downtime during a disaster.

#1: Property Protection

- Protect windows and doors from potential debris

- Secure electronics and valuable office equipment

- Pick up everything off floor or lower shelves/cabinets in case of flooding

- Consider sandbagging any necessary areas

- Bring inside any outdoor signs, décor, furniture, etc to prevent loss of items

 

#2: Financial Protection

- Create a list of important contact information of employees, banks, suppliers, etc

- Back-up all important documents insurance paperwork, tax returns, accounting statements, etc.

- Make a copy of all above documents: seal on copy in waterproof containers on-site and bring the other copy with you.

 

#3: Preparedness Checklist

In the event that you find yourself at your place of business during the storm or unforeseen weather conditions make sure you are prepared by having at least these essentials on-site.

- Battery operated radio or tv

- Non-perishable food supply and Water (three days worth)

- First aid kit and fire extinguisher

- Flashlight and batteries

- Tool kit (basic tools, rope, duct tape, etc)

- Generator and gas

- Cash, ATM Cards, proper identification
